I didn’t actually draw this during a meet up, since I was too ill to attend, but since I live near the location I figured I could still contribute with a sketch from the neighbourhood. It’s been a while since I last drew a building and they have never been my strong suit, but I think this one turned out really well.
August 2nd 2017.
We made a return visit to Gubbens trädgård café. Of course it started to rain just as we got there, but we managed to find seats beneath shelter so we could sketch.
I drew another wall display, this time a basket with flowers. The drawing turned out entirely too big, but I was too lazy to start over and scale it down. Instead I focused on the colouring and creating texture. The metal parts turned out fancy.
Then for fun, I just did a quick and messy sketch of the ice tea I had ordered.
We’ve got lots of parks in my city, but one of the most beautiful is Strömparken. The city has made a stream for the salmon to procreate within and I drew part of this stream, with one of the small islands rising up out of it. I’m really happy with how this sketch turned out.
But it was a miracle that I finished. It kept starting to rain, only to stop when we decided to move, only to start raining again five minutes later. There was just no winning!

For my first meet up with Urban Sketchers during my vacation, we went to this lovely little outdoor café. They have lots of knickknacks that are tempting to sketch. We actually had to venture back and do a second session.
I sketched this display they had on the wall with metal birds and a half-dead flower. The straw things turned out particularly well, I think.

I didn’t technically fininish this during the session, because I got so tired. But I did the sketch there, then coloured it at home. The funniest looking geranium I’ve ever seen!
June 21st 2017.
Villa Flora is a café and exhibition garden within a plant school located in Svärtinge, just outside of Norrköping. With work I’ve had trouble meeting up with Urban Sketchers regularly (that’s why there’s such a gap.)
A sketch from the café section, out on the pateo. The perspective and the shadowing on the steps were interesting and challenging. I decided to keep it very simple and not aim for realism.
I also noticed some tulips that I wanted to sketch.
May 21st 2017.
So, I lied in an earlier post. These were actually my first drawings of the year. I did them both during a sketching session at Brödernas café.
I was really rusty when I tried to draw my chai latte. There’s very things I’m happy with. I do like the straw, though. That’s the only part that turned out well.
Then I did this doodle of a lantern, which I think turned out rather well. I like the circular shape, the open space next to the lantern, and the organic feel of the leaves.
February 15th 2017.
We carpooled to the neighbour town to sketch their old town. It was freezing, so I spent the first hour just touristing before I forced myself to sit down and get some sketching done. It was a first for me to draw with gloves on and I think that’s why the sketch ended up so lopsided. This was a charming pavillion belonging to one of the cafés, and I just had to colour because I loved the combination of green and red.
April 22nd 2017.
I think this might be the first drawing I’ve done this year. Maybe. I’m going to have to go over my different sketch books and see.
This is from a café called Kupolen (The Dome) at one of the local malls. It’s – surprise, surprise – a dome and I sketched the inside of it with the lamps hanging down. You can tell that I’m horribly rusty.
February 26th 2017.
This drawing is from the same session as the Christmas tree.
Feeling a bit discouraged, I went up to where the rest of the group was sitting and ordered a chai latte and a lussekatt. While eating, I sketched the vase on the table and felt a little better. Quick and easy. It turned out quite cute.
December 4th 2016.
When I met up with my USK group in the beginning of December, I was feeling really out of practice. And I think it shows in this drawing of a Christmas tree that was in the mall. This will probably still end up being the groups’ Christmas card, which is fun.
